Celebrating the past, present and future, the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences (JCSMHS) at Monash University Malaysia recently commemorated its 10th anniversary.
Founded as a concurrent establishment in Johor and Selangor in 2007, the JCSMHS is fully owned by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF).
Today, JCSMHS is a research-intensive private medical school, in areas including public health, brain research, dengue virus infection, diabetes, obesity and cancer. Besides being the first medical school outside of Australia and New Zealand to be accredited by the Australian Medical Council, the medical school has accreditation from the Malaysian Medical Council.
JCSMHS’ research achievements include the Brain Research Institute of Monash Sunway (BRIMS) and the South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO) which is based in Segamat, Johor.
As a testament to its quality education, JCSMHS has produced outstanding graduates, particularly in 2012 and 2013, where Monash University Malaysia students clinched top honours ahead of their counterparts in Monash University Australia.
Moving forward, JCSMHS will collaborate closely with top medical schools in Harvard University and Cambridge University to establish research facilities in Sunway Medical Centre. Other potential tie-ups include partnerships with universities in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the US.
