Key Takeaways

  • As the digital native Gen-Zs enter the work force, the Sunway Group Campus Ambassadors or Sunbassadors programme connect campuses to the corporate sphere.

Echoed by the World Economic Forum’s estimates, Generation Z is projected to make up 27% of the global workforce in 2025. As the digital-native generation enters the corporate world, companies must adapt, evolve and innovate to create significant changes in management styles and work environments.

According to Deloitte, employers hoping to attract top Gen Z talent should invest in strong training and leadership opportunities starting as early as university level. Doing so not only strengthens the company’s reputation among fresh graduates but also appeals to ambitious young talent seeking a dynamic, latticed career path.

At Sunway, the Sunbassador programme students aim to provide university students with real-world experience, hands-on corporate exposure and an opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities.

It serves as a bridge between the next generation of corporate leaders and Sunway Group.

At its heart are bright, ambitious students eager to make a difference as they represent Sunway at their respective universities while immersing themselves in professional environments beyond the classroom.

These student ambassadors play a pivotal role in connecting their campuses with opportunities in the corporate world. From opening doors to internships and career pathways to hosting site visits and interactive workshops, their efforts spark connections between students and Sunway.

Driving Engagement, Delivering Results

Each Sunbassador is entrusted with a set of structured responsibilities that bridge both digital and on-ground engagement.

On platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn, they create and share content ranging from real-time event updates to post-event highlights and key takeaways.

They also play a key role in extending Sunway’s reach on WhatsApp and Telegram by sharing event details with their peers. These digital touchpoints are essential in reaching today’s hyper-connected student audience.

On-campus, their involvement includes coordinating career fairs, campus talks, site visits to Sunway’s various business divisions and spearhead initiatives such as “A Day with Sunway” – an immersive session where students get to engage directly with Sunway professionals. Their contribution ensures that students do not just learn about career possibilities — they get to experience them first-hand.

Behind the scenes, each Sunbassador’s effort is guided by clear key performance indicators (KPIs), ranging from the number of social media posts and on-campus event engagements to participation rates in Sunway-led programmes. This structured approach mirrors the professional environment, allowing the Sunbassadors to build accountability, discipline and confidence in their work before entering the working world.

Meet the New Generation

The 2024/25 intake welcomes 30 new students from universities including  Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) each bringing fresh perspectives to the programme.

The Sunbassadors represent disciplines ranging from Engineering and Architecture to Finance, Economics and Computer Science.

More Than Just a Title

The Group’s commitment to nurturing talent is further affirmed by its success at the Life at Work Awards 2025, receiving four major accolades, including Best Organisation (Public Listed Company) and Talent Sustainability. These achievements reflect our dedication to building a future-ready workforce rooted in diversity, equity and inclusion, values that are clearly embodied in initiatives such as the Sunbassador programme.

While the responsibilities are substantial, the Sunbassador experience is transformative. More than just an ambassadorial role, the Sunbassador programme  is a leadership platform where students can take on real responsibilities, work on meaningful projects and gain hands-on experience with industry professionals.

As Gen Z continues to enter and change the work force, initiatives such as the Sunbassador programme will continue to build student leaders on the foundation of integrity, humility and excellence to foster an ever-evolving work environment where young talent can thrive.
